Qualifying Event or a Change in Family Status
When you can make changes:
Consider your benefit elections carefully. You will not have an opportunity to change your elections until the next open enrollment period – unless you have a qualifying event or a change in family status.
Examples of a qualifying event or change in family status include:
- Marriage, divorce or legal separation
- Birth or adoption of a child
- Change in work status for you or your spouse or DP
- Death of your spouse or DP
- Loss of coverage in another group health plan
If you have a change in family status, you must notify the HR Support Center within 30 days from the date of the event to make changes to your benefits plan(s). Information about qualifying events is available on BVconnect.
