How to Enroll (Step-by-Step)
Step 1: Access Your Retirement Account
You can enroll in the Retirement Program beginning the Monday following the week you are hired. Eligible employees are automatically enrolled after 45 days if they do not take action.
To get started:
- Visit Schwab Workplace.
- Select Register Now.
- Create your login ID and password.
- Log in and follow the enrollment prompts.
You can also download the Schwab Workplace Retirement App to access your account from your mobile device.
Step 2: Choose Your Contribution Rate
The Retirement Program allows you to contribute from 1% to 60% of eligible compensation and bonuses through payroll deduction. Contributions can be made on a traditional pre-tax basis, a Roth 401(k) basis or a combination of both.
Company Match
Black & Veatch matches $0.50 for every $1 you contribute, up to 6% of eligible compensation. Matching contributions are made quarterly.
Automatic Enrollment
If you do not make an election within 45 days of hire, you will automatically be enrolled at a 6% pre-tax contribution rate. Contributions automatically increase by 1% each year up to a maximum of 15%.
Step 3: Select Your Investment Strategy
Choose the investment approach that best fits your retirement goals:
Option 1: Target Retirement Fund
A professionally managed fund that automatically adjusts over time as you approach retirement.
Option 2: Personalized Advice
Access personalized retirement planning and investment recommendations through Morningstar Investment Management.
Option 3: Build Your Own Portfolio
Create your own investment strategy using the Retirement Program's core investment options.
Option 4: Self-Directed Brokerage
Eligible participants can open a Schwab Personal Choice Retirement Account (PCRA) for additional investment flexibility.
Step 4: Assign Your Beneficiary
Protect the people who matter most by naming a beneficiary for your account. Keeping your beneficiary designation current helps ensure your account is distributed according to your wishes.
Step 5: Take Advantage of Additional Retirement Program Benefits
Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
The Retirement Program includes the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), a company-provided retirement benefit that gives eligible employees an ownership interest in Black & Veatch through the Retirement Program.
Rollover Contributions
You may be able to roll over eligible retirement accounts from previous employers into the Retirement Program. To learn more, log in to Schwab Workplace and select Manage Account > Rollover Contribution.
Automatic Savings Increase
You may elect to automatically increase your contribution rate annually to help grow your retirement savings over time.
